Government funding often comes with lots of restrictions. Too much government funding can also cause an organization to become too dependent. Is there a right or wrong answer about receiving government fundings as a nonprofit. Absolutely not. It’s different for every organization. The fundraiser, however, worries about government funding and the impact to the culture of an organization, especially if it signals to Board members and other donors that the organization doesn’t really need philanthropy.
