Did you ever hear the one about being silent after you make the ask and let the prospective donor respond first? It’s true…but let’s not neglect to think carefully about the question we are asking. Ask the wrong question and the silence after the ask has been made can be quite uncomfortable. A well worded ask statement can put both people at ease and create a very natural silence or break before the donor responds.
