On a nonprofit board, participation is not evenly divided among its members. The joke is that one third of all board members show up and do the work. One third show up and do no work. And one third don’t show up and don’t do any work. Regardless of the percentages, the higher percentage of board engagement through showing up and doing the work, the more effective the nonprofit.
